Ebony was a girl born on a Saturday. At home they called her Ama. In her language, the Okanisi language, Ama’s name meant exactly that—a girl born on a Saturday.

The color of her skin was like the night sky, deep and full of beauty. The texture of her hair was kinky and afro-textured, like an exquisite crown resting on her head. But Ebony wasn’t happy about it. At school, no one looked like her, which made her wonder if she truly belonged.
